The Clarity That Comes With Good Sleep

Good sleep is perhaps the most underrated advice I've ever seen in self-improvement posts and videos. Yet it is the most important in my opinion. Here is why I think that's the case.

November was an extremely busy month for me and I wasn't able to get 8 hours of sleep for ~19 days back-to-back. When I finally jumped into bed and slept for however long my body needed; it felt like I was a different human being.

I was happy by default, I knew how to order my priorities and how to handle that situation I've been procrastinating on actioning.

I suddenly noticed that many online posts talking about how to succeed in life, career, networking, etc often prioritize things like work on this, work on that, learn AI, don't learn it, change your mindset, learn the basics, stay up to date, ... etc.

Why does no-one ever mention that perhaps the MOST important advice we can give others (and ourselves) is to always prioritize a good night's sleep. Even more important than everything else.

As someone who learnt this lesson the EXTREMELY hard way, sleeping well can mean multiple worlds of difference between

  • how you perceive the world around you all else being the same?
  • how you weigh in logically and with clarity in difficult situations?
  • how do you perceive social interactions from the people around you and how do you react to them?
  • how does your body respond to food, exercise, life situations, etc?

If your default mode is not to give your body at least 8 hours of sleep at roughly consistent hours, please do yourself a favor and give it a try. I know I will 😄.
